Bonnaroo 2013 Lineup Announced

February 19, 2013

It is almost time again to “Do the ‘Roo,” as Bonnaroo veterans affectionately refer to the annual four-day music festival (well honestly only some do; the nickname is actually quite polarizing). Held on a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee, Bonnaroo began by featuring mostly jam bands and folk rock, but has greatly diversified over the years, recently including acts like Jay-Z, Metallica, and Eminem (who are not remotely jam or folk rock).  Good move.

The lineup is always a bit eclectic incorporating artists of all genres, including both legendary and emerging musicians. But it’s the craftsman and artisans selling Bonnaroo “essentials” (ala an eco-friendly fringed hula hoop), the comedy tent, and the silent disco that give the festival its raw resourcefulness.  Well, that, and the massive fountain in the middle of the grounds which commences with clean water on Thursday and surrenders with spouting murky brown liquid by Sunday. Hey 80,000 music die-hards have to shower….resourcefulness.

Here is the 2013 lineup which was just announced:

How do you feel about the acts this year? Tweet me your thoughts & any questions you may have to @AlliHagendorf . I’ve done the ‘Roo a slew of times, and can advise on what to include in your survival kit. I am serious here. 4 days in 97-degree heat in Tennessee requires proper planning…and if you can get a pass to the “VIP’ latrines, which tend to be your only access to AC the entire weekend, then you will find yourself to be ‘Roo royalty. To buy your tix to this beloved sweatfest on June 13-16, go to the Bonnaroo site. In the meantime, I leave you this random  photo and video of me and comedian JB Smoove touring Bonnaroo 2010, and yes, the tilapia in catering IS that good.

Bonnaroo Bonus:  The word Bonnaroo, popularized by New Orleans R&B singer Dr. John with his 1974 album Desitively Bonnaroo, means “a really good time.” Mmmm hmmm.
